Not Meant to Be

I make a decision and
I try to get my thoughts to stray,
But it's really no use
Because on you they stay.

All the things that you do,
I cannot help myself!
My mind sticks to you
And not anyone else.

But I know it's no use.
We simply can't be.
Yet I still hope that
You think the same things about me.

Wonder and questions erupt
Within my mind.
Maybe a simple kiss on the cheek
Wouldn't be such a crime?

But then I come back
To the real world at last.
I've got to get over you
And pretend my feelings have passed.

Sometimes life really stinks,
And you look back with regret.
It seems like all the things that I want,
I never really get.

And to think that you maybe could be
My perfect match.
It's too late now, though.
I have to let you go even though I want to catch.

So maybe one day we will
Find each other again.
But until those future days,
I'm left with we-could-have-beens.

You know that all I really want
Is the best life for you.
And the fact is I'm not the girl
Who can make those dreams come true.

Or maybe I am,
And we just don't know it yet.
But God's got things covered,
I'm more than willing to bet.

So now I must leave you,
And maybe it's really just for now.
But know I'll always love you,
And you'll find your way somehow.
